The Flood Insurable Solution by i-REACT Consulting tackles one of Australia’s most pressing and inequitable climate risks: residential flood damage. As flooding becomes more frequent and more severe, low-income communities face escalating insurance premiums, or worse, complete exclusion from coverage.
This project introduces the Property Flood Certificate (PFC): a pioneering tool that certifies the quality, installation, and documentation of flood mitigation solutions, all securely recorded on a blockchain-based platform. This evidence-based approach bridges the current gap in flood insurance underwriting and makes once “uninsurable” properties eligible for affordable coverage.
At the heart of this initiative is John Alexander, an accomplished flood resilience innovator and founder of i-REACT Consulting. Based in Geelong, John has led multiple pioneering initiatives in the UK and EU, including co-developing the world’s first residential flood door, delivering flood protection services for local councils, and collaborating with insurers like Aviva to restore coverage to high-risk homes. His experience spans flood protection-as-a-service, resilient infrastructure, and early warning systems.
By combining engineering rigour, blockchain technology, and community impact, the Flood Insurable Solution exemplifies 10PCF’s commitment to inclusive, digitally-enabled solutions for climate resilience.
